At a young age, I always advocated for animals in shelters and even wanted to become an animal cop at one point. As a no-kill shelter, they provide the best services, from adoption to vet care to helping displaced animals and even reaching out to the community to let people know that there are good pets in these shelters that deserve loving homes. They fight a great fight, and I applaud them for helping animals around the Atlanta area.”

Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to cancer patients and their families in the community and offers support for cancer education and research. ACCF was founded in 2001 by physicians to help those in Atlanta, and it has since grown to service 17 metro counties. The financial aid provided helps cancer patients with costs directly associated with the disease, such as treatment, co-pays, and their necessary living expenses.
Lloyd chose ACCF as his donation because he knows that cancer is a debilitating disease that carries a heavy financial burden, and he is grateful to support an organization providing direct assistance to those in need within our community.

Finnley is a mixed breed that founding partner Jason Wiggam adopted from the Atlanta Humane Society.
Although she is eleven years old, she is still a goofy puppy at heart. Unlike most dogs, she loves watching fireworks on the 4th of July and enjoys riding on the wave runner on the lake! She also loves balloons and playing keep away with them.
Taylor Gray, marketing coordinator, brought her camera to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens to capture the tulips before they disappeared for the season.

Michael McGuire and her family are proud to support Lost-n-Found Youth, which provides important resources for LGBTQ youth facing the devastating experience of homelessness. Michael believes all individuals deserve unconditional love, a safe home environment, and the opportunity to pursue personal dreams with respect and without judgment.

Say hello to Wiggam Law’s Pet of the Month: Bartholomew!
Bartholomew is a baby red-eared slider turtle who belongs to associate attorney Lloyd Mohney. It was love at first sight when Lloyd stumbled upon a man peddling turtles outside of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium after a Falcons game. Though the Falcons may have lost, Lloyd won that day after finding his new best reptilian friend.
Bartholomew enjoys doing a whole lot of nothing. Exhausted from his full-time job of sitting there and looking cute, Bartholomew spends most of his days basking under his sunlamp and keeping Lloyd company.

Georgia Lawyers for the Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal assistance and education for artists and art organizations in Georgia.
Judson chose this organization because he comes from a large family of musicians and artists and has witnessed firsthand how difficult it can be for new artists to preserve and protect their work and navigate the industry. Georgia Lawyers for the Arts provide pro bono legal services and educational seminars for artists who would not otherwise be able to get the legal assistance they need.

Nano and Choco are Chihuahua mixes that belong to client services coordinator Taylor Gray. Nano’s pastimes include barking at absolutely nothing and burrowing under Costco sherpa blankets. Choco enjoys stashing food behind the couch and bullying dogs that are five times his size.

Hallie is a two-year-old Goldendoodle who belongs to associate attorney Jessica Williams. Hallie thoroughly enjoys sleeping upside down all day, eating ALL human food, cuddling, and playing frisbee.
As newly established Georgia residents from South Florida, Hallie and her owners just experienced their first Fall season and quickly discovered Hallie’s infatuation with chasing any falling leaves or those blowing in the wind.

Young adults who identify as being part of the LGBTQIA community are disproportionally at risk for experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. The LGBTQIA Student Emergency Fund was set up to offer assistance to Georgia Tech students in need of emergency support. Meet October’s Wiggam Law’s Pet of the Month: Sully! Sully is a 2.5 year old long-haired tabby rescued by the Atlanta Humane Society who belongs to senior case coordinator Morgan Gotwald.
His hobbies include engaging in late-night zoomies, taking naps on his mom, and turning every dog person into a cat lover. Sully also recently discovered that there is a craft beer named after him!

Max, a 19-week-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, has won pet of the month! Max belongs to case coordinator Bria Delane.
Bria and her best friend fell in love with Max while they were on vacation a couple of weeks ago. They did not expect to come back home with a dog but they could not leave this sweet puppy behind.
Max loves squeaky toys, being nosey, and being the cutest corgi out there. Having just gotten Max, they are still getting to know him but can already tell he is destined to do great things!

Big Brothers Big Sisters Heart of Georgia facilitates mentors (“Bigs”) for at-risk youth (“Littles”) aged 5 to 18 in Central Georgia. Children who are mentored have better school attendance, earn better grades, and form better relationships with their peers. Having a trusted adult friend in their lives who provides friendship and guidance helps youth achieve their potential and be productively engaged in their own communities. Mentors are volunteers who have been carefully screened, trained, and then matched with a local child as their Big Brother/Big Sister.

Tyler chose this organization because he believes their work allows children stability and a chance to succeed in life.
Founded in 1986, the Atlanta Children’s Shelter provides free, quality daycare, emotional support, an educational curriculum, and focused social services. Since opening, the shelter has provided care for over 8,000 homeless children and helped 5,000 homeless families gain stability.

AFA is a non-profit organization providing support, services and education to those affected by Alzheimer’s disease nationwide, and funding research toward a cure. AFA not only provides services and support to those suffering from dementia but also to their families and caregivers. In addition, AFA works with dementia-care settings and professional caregivers to provide continued education and further training to enhance the level of care they provide on a daily basis.

For March, associate attorney Lloyd Mohney has chosen to donate to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
The Huntsman Cancer Foundation (HCF) focuses on funding research into the origins of cancer. HCF’s cancer research has led to the identification of more genes for inherited cancers than any other cancer institute in the world. The genes identified include those responsible for hereditary colon, breast, ovarian, head and neck cancers, and melanoma. Lloyd was introduced to HCF in 2010 while completing his undergraduate studies and has been an avid supporter of the organization ever since.

For December, client care coordinator, Allison Martinez has chosen the organization Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the largest non-profit children’s literacy organization in the United States. “This foundation is very near and dear to my heart,” Allison said. “I believe every child deserves the gift of taking home a book of their very own and learning how to read.”
Founded in 1966, Reading Is Fundamental is the leading voice for children’s literacy. Locally, the organization motivates children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to low-income families in the Atlanta area. Their newest initiative, Race, Equity, and Inclusion, addresses systemic racism and social justice through the power of books and reading

Georgia Lawyers for the Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal assistance and education for artists and art organizations in Georgia. Judson chose this organization because he comes from a large family of musicians and artists and has witnessed first hand how difficult it can be for artists to preserve and protect their work and navigate the industry. Georgia Lawyers for the Arts provide pro bono legal services and educational seminars for artists who would not otherwise be able to get the legal assistance they need.

All through 2021, Wiggam Law is donating $1,000 per month to a charitable organization selected by the firm’s employees. In honor of her mother, the late Mrs. Barbara Judson, executive assistant Kaila Thompson has chosen National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
NBCF’s mission is to help women now by providing help and inspiring hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education, and support services. NBCF has provided over a million free mammograms, early detection, and patient navigation services to uninsured patients and those in need of financial assistance. Additionally, after hearing the concerns of metastatic patients, NBCF recently launched a metastatic retreat program for Stage IV breast cancer patients and their caregivers. During the retreats, patients and caregivers receive oncology consultations, end-of-life preparations, and thorough examination of patients’ hopes and fears.

Since 2005, Atlanta has consistently ranked within the top 14 cities in the U.S for human trafficking, adversely affecting adults and children alike. In response to this rising crisis, youthSpark was created to advocate for and protect children in abusive and exploitative situations. youthSpark aspires to create a world where no girl or boy is a product that can be bought, sold, or abused.
Located inside the Fulton County Juvenile Justice Center, youthSpark provides direct services such as counseling, case management, safety planning, and other support to youth who have been exploited, abused, or are at-risk. In addition to providing direct services, youthSpark researches human trafficking, advocates for solutions that reduce buyer demand for trafficking, and advocates for policies that better help exploited children navigate the legal system. youthSpark also provides ambassador training to community members and groups that equip individuals with the knowledge to identify human trafficking occurring in their community and the steps to safely intervene and help save lives.

Powerful Hurricane Ida made landfall Sunday, August 29th on the southeastern Louisiana coast, as a Category 4 storm with winds of 150 mph, life-threatening storm surge, potentially catastrophic wind damage, and flooding rainfall. For the Red Cross, their work is just beginning. Currently, about 350 trained Red Cross workers are on the ground with hundreds more traveling from all over the country to help. In the coming days, dozens of Red Cross emergency response vehicles will begin bringing food and relief supplies to people across the region. Financial donations have enabled the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to, and will help people recover from this disaster.
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds, and provides comfort to victims of disasters; supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; distributes international humanitarian aid; and supports veterans, military members, and their families.

The Georgia Center for Child Advocacy’s (“The Center”) mission is to champion the needs of sexually and severely physically abused children through prevention, intervention, therapy, and collaboration at no cost for those who reside in or were abused in DeKalb or Fulton County. The Center has become a model for best practices in supporting child victims of abuse and neglect. Through the Center’s leadership, Georgia became the first state to implement a comprehensive statewide initiative using Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children program which now frequently uses Georgia as a model for other states. This organization is important to Will as he believes all victims of abuse, especially children, should receive the care and support needed to help the process of healing.

Morgan has chosen this organization in honor of her grandfather, Ron Davis, who passed away in November after years of battling the disease.

The Center for the Visually Impaired (CVI) is an extraordinary organization helping those affected by vision loss learn how to adjust to daily life with independence and dignity. CVI helps more than 4,000 people every year in and around Atlanta and Georgia learn how to adjust to living with impaired or lost vision, how to travel safely and independently, and how to get back to work or find new employment. CVI also helps babies and young children born with vision impairment learn how to grow up and navigate the world safely and independently.

Wiggam Law Participates in Virtual IRS Pro Bono Settlement Days
Jason Wiggam and other Wiggam Law attorneys provided pro bono services throughout the week of July 27 as part of the IRS’s virtual Settlement Days program. Wiggam Law attorneys virtually met with self-represented taxpayers and reviewed their cases, then participated in virtual settlement negotiations with the IRS. The IRS hosts Settlement Days in an effort to resolve U.S. Tax Court cases prior to trial.

Building Homes for Heroes supports wounded veterans by constructing or renovating homes, and then giving the houses mortgage-free to the wounded veterans and their families. The charity also offers financial planning services, family funding, and emergency support services. By the end of 2019, the organization had gifted 225 homes, an average of one home every 11 days. Building Homes for Heroes’ goal is to gift 40 homes in 2020 and reach a total of 300 homes by 2021. The charity encourages wounded veterans in the program to give back by traveling to events or participating in efforts to support other severely injured veterans.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta’s mission is to recruit volunteers to become mentors to children facing adversity. The charity matches children with adults who can ignite their full potential and have a lasting impact. As the youngest of her siblings and an Aunt to 13 nieces and nephews, Cynara sees the benefits of mentoring, particularly beginning at a young age. She has admired the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters for years. Cynara is an avid basketball player and hopes to incorporate her love for the sport into volunteering at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta.

The Giving Kitchen is an organization that provides financial assistance and a network of emergency services for food service workers in their time of need. Hall was introduced to The Giving Kitchen years ago when his sister worked in the food service industry and needed financial assistance for a medical emergency. The Giving Kitchen not only paid her medical bills in full but also found her assistance for rehabilitation. Since then, Hall has donated and volunteered to help the organization’s mission.
During the current pandemic crisis, many food service workers are struggling financially due to restaurant closures. Donating to organizations like The Giving Kitchen is especially important now.

Through the use of sports, TPF is able to give kids a safe way to spend their time after school, while instilling their four core values: hard work, respect, integrity, and collective responsibility. TPF also works alongside the School is Cool attendance program and the College Can college awareness program to promote the importance of higher education.

Jason attended the Georgia State University Annual Scholarship Luncheon. He funds the Jason and Allyson Wiggam Fellowship for GSU Taxpayer Clinic students. The fellowship sponsors a graduate research assistant position and a tuition waiver.

Wiggam Law Gives Back
All through 2019, Wiggam Law is donating $1,000.00 per month to a charitable organization selected by the employees of the firm. For December, Case Coordinator Morgan Vest has chosen Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta.
Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta provides local nonprofits access to high-quality legal services without having to divert funding away from their critical missions: feeding the hungry, helping the homeless, caring for children, nursing the sick, enabling the disabled and helping those in need to help themselves. Last year, the attorney volunteers provided over $4.2 million in free legal assistance to nonprofits.
Georgia State Distinguished Alumni
Jason Wiggam has been named as an honoree in the Georgia State 2020 class of distinguished alumni under the age of 40. Started in 2018, the 40 Under 40 program recognizes and honors the most influential and innovative graduates who embody the values of Georgia State.

Wiggam Law employees participated in an in-house LEAN training session hosted by Yoel Yohan. LEAN is a system for streamlining processes, reducing waste by identifying non-value activities and increasing productivity. We were able to experience a hands-on production simulation that doubled as a fun team-building exercise!
GSU Professional Development Speed Networking
Jason Wiggam attended the GSU Professional Development Speed Networking event in November. The event is open to all GSU students and the attorneys in attendance have a chance to meet the newest law school students.

Atlanta Mission is an organization with a mission to end homelessness and help men, women, and children with everything from the physical, to the practical, to the emotional. The Mission provides meals, shelter, clothing, job training, recovery programs, transitional housing and more to help those in need get back on their feet.

Jason Wiggam attended the GSU 40 under 40 Meet & Greet as a nominee. Through a formal nomination and selection process, the Georgia State University Alumni Association honors, recognizes and celebrates the most influential graduates who represent Georgia State.
Southern Federal Tax Institute
Wiggam Law attorneys attended the Southern Federal Tax Institute on October 21-23. The program is designed for the practitioner who must frequently anticipate and handle federal tax matters. Emphasis is placed on subjects new and current, including in-depth coverage of recent developments and problems which often prove difficult in planning clients’ affairs and transactions.

First Step Staffing For Good is an amazing local non-profit that helps both homeless families and the greater community as a whole by helping to provide a path out of homelessness. The non-profit helps homeless individuals find secure, sustainable employment, every step of the way, including providing job and life coaching, transportation to job interviews and appointments, and even housing placement assistance.

Georgia Lawyers for the Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal assistance and education for artists and art organizations in Georgia. Judson chose this organization because he comes from a large family of musicians and artists and has witnessed firsthand how difficult it can be for new artists to preserve and protect their work and navigate the industry. Georgia Lawyers for the Arts provide pro bono legal services and educational seminars for artists who would not otherwise be able to get the legal assistance they need.
