John Kirbo

SENIOR ATTORNEY

John Kirbo is a Senior Attorney at Wiggam Law in Atlanta, Georgia. Kirbo has a long history of successfully navigating complex tax disputes. His work has encompassed a variety of tax issues, including audit representation, tax litigation, penalty abatement requests, innocent spouse claims, and collection issues. He also has an extensive legal background resolving numerous tax controversies, including Section 831(b) captive insurance companies, Section 170(h) conservation easements, as well as estate and gift valuations.

Prior to joining Wiggam Law, Kirbo served as Senior Counsel at Chamberlain Hrdlicka, fighting federal tax cases with the firm’s Tax Controversy practice. He is a past president of the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association and volunteered annually as an instructor under the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Adopt-A-Base program at the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base to help train service members become return preparers, before moving his practice to Atlanta.

Kirbo received his Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law, his Juris Doctor from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law and his Bachelor of Business Administration from Mercer University Stetson School of Business and Economics. He was named among The Albany Herald 40 Under 40, and as a Georgia Rising Star by Super Lawyers for three consecutive years (2022-2024). Kirbo is admitted to practice in the United States Tax Court, various U.S. District Courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit,  and the Superior, Appeals and Supreme Courts of Georgia.

Which famous person, dead or alive, would you like by your side during a zombie apocalypse?

Either Ben Franklin or Jennifer Doudna. One of them might figure out a more permanent solution than my chainsaw.

What was your least favorite childhood chore and why?

Mowing the lawn. South Georgia is hot, and grass doesn’t grow in the shade.
