Mark Mesler, a retired Principal at Ernst & Young, led the firm’s Tax Controversy practice for the Central and Southeast U.S. His clients were large and mid-sized multinational corporations and high wealth individuals.
Mark earned his J. D. in 1987 from Georgia State University, after which he worked as a trial attorney for IRS Chief Counsel. There he specialized in litigation ranging from large corporate entities to individual taxpayers, representing the agency before the U.S. Tax and Bankruptcy Courts. During his tenure at IRS Chief Counsel Mark was designated a Special Assistant United States Attorney. From 2013 to 2015 Mark was a member of the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council and served as Chair of the Large Business & International sub-group of IRSAC.
In 2000, Mark joined Ernst & Young and served as a specialist in IRS practice and procedure as well as tax controversy. Many of his clients consisted of Fortune 500 companies looking for procedural advice and ways to resolve their tax controversies without litigation. Mark also advised Ernst & Young professionals on risk issues, ethical standards, and professional responsibility.
